2024 AUDITION NOTICE: FAULTY TALES™
Boxboards Theatre has moved its base to Orange NSW and is currently searching for actors to join the Boxboards Troupe!
Boxboards Theatre invites audiences to enter the world of their favourite television shows and to experience them from the inside! There is a real magic in being able to see, touch and interact with characters you always felt were a part of your life- and now they are! If you are interested in performing in dinner theatre at all, don’t hesitate to email Boxboards Theatre and we will get back to you to chat!
FAULTY TALES TM is Boxboard Theatre’s hilarious parody of the world's most infamous BBC television show. Faulty Tales has been entertaining packed audiences in the Blue Mountains, and Sydney, for over 24 years! It is a Dinner Theatre format. The show is largely scripted, however, there is a significant improvisational component.
REHEARSALS & PERFORMANCES:
Cibil and Pollie are the roles we are auditioning for our Faulty Tales Dinner Theatre show. The production is to be staged at BANKSIA event space, Orange NSW during January / February. Rehearsals will be held between August and December one night a week in Orange. The rehearsal evening will be on either a Monday, Wednesday or Thursday night from 7.30- 10.00pm with the specific choice of night to be negotiated with the cast.
THE CHARACTERS:
CIBIL: is the wife of Bazil. She is simultaneously caustic and charming. Her charm is fuelled by a few glasses of wine and is laid on without a great deal of subtlety. Cibil dresses well in what she considers to be high fashion but which in reality reeks of 70’s gaudiness. Cibil will most likely be played by an actor of between 30-60 years of age, however actors outside this range will certainly be considered. The character is female and will be played as female, however we are looking for the right actor so an actor who is not female can most definitely audition for this role. The actor will need comic and improvisational skill and will be able to reproduce the vocal and physical essence of the original character. Cibil’s iconic barking laugh will be asked for!
POLLIE: is long suffering waitress in the hotel. She is the only truly sensible and sane one on staff and keeps the whole operation on the rails. Pollie understands where her bread is buttered and so assists Bazil to cover-up his increasingly manic mistakes and hide them from his wife Cibil. Pollie is elegant, intelligent, observant, and often makes cutting quips in response to the insanities she witnesses. Her voice is smooth, well rounded and quite English.
AUDITION REQUIREMENTS:
Please familiarise yourself with the original show and character. The focus of Boxboards is mimicry -your ability to recreate recognisable vocal and physical characteristics of the character. Once you book an audition you will be sent a short script to perform on the day. There will also be a fun improvisation element to the audition which will, obviously, be revealed on the day! The audition will be conducted in a supportive and good-humoured atmosphere. Boxboards Theatre encourages and expects all performers to display the qualities of professionalism, respect and generosity.
THE GIG:
These are unpaid roles, however there will be a travel allowance paid for rehearsals and performances. The show is a great deal of fun to perform!
AUDITION VENUE:
The audition will be held at BANKSIA event space, 4929 Mitchell Highway, Orange NSW. Turn left heading west off the highway, head up the driveway and turn right before you reach the motor lodge- BANKSIA has its own carpark.
HOW TO SECURE AN AUDITION:
