AUDITION NOTICES
We are currently negotiating the next show AUDITION NOTICE: FAULTY TALES™ Character: Pollie.
Boxboards Theatre is looking for dynamic character actor to play the role of POLLIE in our Faulty TalesTM dinner theatre show. The first performances will be staged at the Palais Royale, Katoomba during Yulefest.
The dates are …
Saturday July 22 (Opening Night)
Saturday July 29
Friday 4th August
Saturday August 12th
Saturday August 19th
Saturday August 26th
This is a dinner Theatre format. While the show itself is scripted, actors are in character the entire night and improvisation is required as well. A set is situated at one end of the performance area.
Payment for actors is organised on a unit share basis. More information about payment will be supplied at audition.
Rehearsals will be held on Tuesday nights from 7.30-10.00pm, between Feburary 27th and opening on 22nd July. Rehearsals are held at the Pailais Royale Hotel, Katoomba.
Faulty Tales TM is Boxboard's parody of the world's most infamous BBC television show. 'Faulties' has been entertaining packed audiences in the mountains, and elsewhere, for over 24 years- it is the 'Mousetrap of the Mountains'! Faulty Tales is a show most typically performed as Dinner Theatre, but the show has been performed in a range of formats and venues. The show is mainly scripted, however, there is a significant improvisational component. The actors would need to be flexible, inventive and wanting to have fun.
Character: POLLIE is a long-suffering waitress in the hotel. She is the only truly sensible and sane one in the staff and kepps the whole operation on the rails. Pollie understands where her bread is buttered and so assists Bazil to cover-up his increasingly manic mistakes and hide them from his wife Cibil. Pollie is intelligent, observant and often makes cutting quips in response to the insanities she witnesses. Her voice is smooth, well rounded and quite English without being posh.
AUDITION REQUIREMENTS:
Please familiarise yourself with the source TV show we parody. Boxboards writes and performs our own scripts. The focus of Boxboards is mimicry -your ability to recreate recognisable vocal and physical characteristics of the original character while providing our own ‘take’ on the character. If you apply for an audition, you will be sent a short script to perform on the day. There will also be an improvisation element to the audition which will, obviously, be revealed on the day!
Your audition will definitely be conducted in a supportive and good-humoured atmosphere.
Boxboards Theatre encourages and expects all performers display the qualities of professionalism, respect and most importantly- generosity.
AUDITION DATE: On Application. We can organise a mutually beneficial time for your audition.
AUDITION VENUE: The audition will be held at the Pailais Royale, Katoomba.
